Proven Innocent Season 1 Episode 10 Review: SEAL Team Deep Six

Maddie and company found a new court in which to attempt to free a wrongfully convicted prisoner.

This time out, they veered into JAG territory on Proven Innocent Season 1 Episode 10.

Not surprisingly, in the still male-dominated military, a confrontational female such as Maddie wasn't well received.

Then again, that made her the perfect person to take on the case of Rachel Clarke.

Rachel was in line to become the first female SEAL team member, until she got convicted of killing a fellow SEAL candidate who unfortunately was the base commander's son-in-law.

At first, it seemed like the Navy, an old boys' network, didn't want a woman infiltrating its premiere team.

A woman getting rejected by the man she loved was motive enough to convict her. After all, women are emotional and could snap, as every male interview made sure to mention.

As the JAG officer that recruited them said, the Navy still has a way to go when it comes to accepting women in all positions.

But as Easy pointed out, that seemed like a pretty extreme approach to get rid of one woman.

What made much more sense is that the real killer had framed her instead.

The judges and officers didn't think much of sassy Maddie either. You'd think they would respond positively to her shoot-first, ask-questions-second approach.

Maybe if she had been a man.

The Navy closed ranks quickly against outsiders questioning how Rachel's case was handled originally: arresting Maddie and Easy just for visiting military housing, spouting the company line about the case, suppressing documents.

Still, Rachel, who was only friends with Moore, ended up giving them the key information they needed, about the victim having nightmares about "Fahdi."

A little research revealed a massacre in the Fahdi District blamed on the Taliban.

But the truth is that the tightly wound SEAL team heard what sounded like gunfire and started shooting, killing a family, including one old man shot in cold blood so there would be no witnesses.

Moore got killed because, as Rachel suggested, he was going to talk to someone about the massacre. Fortunately, Maddie and Easy found one of his SEAL teammates who felt guilty about the massacre and identified the other teammate who killed Moore, to keep him quiet.

So Rachel got cleared because one SEAL stood up to those around him who were content to blame her instead.

It was great that Rachel got reinstated to the Navy.

But she should have been instantly become a SEAL candidate as well, rather than having to wait for some military bureaucracy to catch up. Getting imprisoned was the Navy's mistake, and they should have corrected it entirely.

Let's move onto the personal front.

First, there was Maddie and Wren. She&# 39;s been very close-mouthed about Wren around the office since even Violet knew nothing about how close Maddie and Wren were, although she did put it together.

Having Wren worked at Maddie's firm is a good idea, to keep Wren out of trouble with her parole officer.

Wren had been inside for a long time and she's going to need Maddie's help adjusting to the outside world.

But Maddie has to be open with everyone about her relationship with Wren, even if she doesn't seem very certain herself about what they are now.

Former prison pals? Friends? Lovers?

Wren is already an improvement on that loser reporter who was dating her only to gain information for an article. Sure, he evolved during their time together, but bottom line, he went into it with impure motives and didn't deserve the benefit of the doubt.

That's certainly enough to turn her off of men.

It's great that Bodie and Russo are back together. The question is whether he can make a mature commitment to her.

Their purely physical relationship was fun, but Bodie sabotaged that because he kept blurring the lines, seeing her as much a source as a girlfriend.

Russo wanted a better delineation of their relationship, to be either Bodie's source or his girlfriend, but not both.

Another Confrontation - Proven Innocent Season 1 Episode 10

That's why she introduced him to her nephew Nathan, who she is raising for her drug-addict sister, seeing if that was going to scare him off. The jury's still out on that, I'm afraid.

Finally, there was Gore's stalking of Maddie, who his mentor Clifford correctly described as his white whale. And things didn't turn out too well for Captain Ahab, did they?

Gore's secret weapon is Levi, who is seriously as dumb as a box of rocks at times. How many times has Isabel been at Gore's side during public events, yet Levi had no idea about their connection?

So Levi, via Isabel, gave Gore a new bone to chew on in the shape of a cove where Maddie and Rosemary hung out. Dredging that cove seemed a little extreme, but undoubtedly it will yield the new evidence he needs to put Maddie back on trial, double jeopardy be damned.

At the same time, Levi also came up with a serious clue for Maddie in the form of that abandoned house on Sparrow Ridge.

It seemed that the clique of girls, which didn't include Maddie, used to hang out there, and, if the trailer is to be believed, the case is about to take a weird-ass turn into the paranormal, a kind of legal horror story.

As poor as the ratings have been, as underappreciated as Proven Innocent is, I fear that we may never reach a conclusion in Maddie's battle against Gore.
